Kitz the Cat's Supermoon Adventure

How should we do away with space junk?

Space is filled with bits and pieces of junk floating around.

Starting with Sputnik 1 in 1957, thousands of rockets were launched into outer space. As a result, space is now filled with heaps of space junk floating around, such as retired satellites and rocket fragments. According to the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2019, approximately one million pieces of space junk that measure at least one centimeter are orbiting the Earth.

Space junk is hazardous.

Space junk hurtles around the Earth at 8km/s. Although it is small in size, it moves much faster than a bullet and thus is highly dangerous. It can inflict severe damage on international space stations, satellites, and astronauts.

Space junk hit the exterior of the Space Shuttle Endeavour and blew a hole in it! Fortunately, no one was hurt.
